Honest expectations

Known limitations

The PDF is a readable reflowed document, not a pixel-perfect copy of the original Word pages.
Complex tables, floating objects, charts, embedded spreadsheets, and text boxes may be omitted.
Macros, comments, and tracked changes are not executed or reproduced.
Custom fonts, headers, footers, and original page breaks are not preserved.
Password-protected DOCX files are not supported.
Very long documents can exceed the available browser memory.

What stays in your browser

Mammoth converts DOCX content inside a browser worker. Imported HTML is sanitized before it reaches the editor so scripts, event attributes, and unsupported markup are removed.

Edited content may be stored as a lightweight local draft in IndexedDB on this device. The original uploaded DOCX binary and the generated PDF are not persisted there.

Does Word to PDF use the browser print dialog?

No. The tool generates a real PDF file with pdf-lib inside a worker, using A4 pages, standard margins, text wrapping, and page numbers.

Is my DOCX file sent to a conversion service?

No. Mammoth reads the DOCX in a local browser worker. Sanitized content is placed in the editor, and pdf-lib creates the download on your device.

Which Word formatting is preserved?

Paragraphs, headings, bold, italic, and simple ordered or bullet lists are brought into the editor where practical. The generated PDF emphasizes readable text rather than exact Word page layout.

Why are headers, tables, or custom fonts missing?

Those features rely on Word-specific layout systems that a lightweight browser conversion cannot reproduce reliably. Complex tables, floating objects, headers, footers, and custom fonts may be simplified or omitted.

Can I paste text instead of choosing a file?

Yes. Click in the editor and type or paste content directly, then create the PDF.
